Monday & Wednesday Field Setup

With the increased number of members taking advantage of the Monday/Wednesday afternoon training times, we are no longer so spread out that people can shoot without regard to other archers using the field.

To ensure everyone’s safety whilst training, we need to apply some consistency and safety rules when we setup targets.

Shooting line

All archers should be shooting from the same shooting line. This prevents the risk of shooting whilst other members are in front of the shooting archer.

If you are intending to do walk-back tuning or you’re getting sights at different distances, you can take advantage of different targets set up at different distances or come down on a Sat or Sun afternoon when the field is lightly used.

Independent shooting

At all times, there should be a minimum of two empty lanes between targets for archers to shoot independently. This means a minimum of 12 metres between targets.

If targets are closer than that (or someone sets up a target between two that were at 12 metres), all archers should shoot and collect arrows together.

Distances

As shown in this diagram, you should set your target up in the appropriate area based on the distance you intend to shoot.

If you want to change distance, try to move to a target already set up rather than move your target forward or back making it inconsistent with other targets in that area.

Lighting conditions

Even though the lights may be on, the quality and coverage of light can mean that it is more difficult to find arrows in the grass at night.

As daylight wanes, move to shooting shorter distances to reduce the likelihood of misses.

Scouts

Make sure you leave room for Scouts at the Northern end of the field noting that, when present, they will be shooting towards the embankment; so ensure that the first lane is well clear of their shooting line.
