Most Improved Archer
In the year 2000, the Executive Committee introduced the Most Improved Archer award to mark the new millennium (partially sponsored by the Warringah Touch Football Club).
It is the intention of the Warringah Archers to introduce a new award for which any archer having a rating at the beginning of the year will automatically qualify.
The objectives of the award:
- To recognise the archer who has improved the most, irrespective of how good they were at the beginning of the year
- To allow for the fact that an archer rated 12 can improve in numeric terms more easily than one with a rating of 80.

🏹 How We Calculate It
The calculation is simple and is applied to everyone with a rating as at the beginning of the shooting year; or from when an archer first obtains a rating. The person with the highest improvement rating wins the award.
The maximum possible rating for an archer is 120.
To determine who has shown the greatest improvement during the year, we use the following formula:
![]()
This method ensures fairness across all levels of experience.
It recognises that improving by just a few points at a high level can be harder than improving by a larger amount at the lower end of the scale.
Example 1 – Archer A
- Rating at beginning of year: 7
- Rating at end of year: 22
![]()
Example 2 – Archer B
- Rating at beginning of year: 91
- Rating at end of year: 95
![]()
Even though Archer A’s rating increased by 15 points and Archer B’s only by 4 points,
Archer B is considered more improved because small rating gains at the top end are much harder to achieve.
Example 3 – Archer C
- Rating at beginning of year: 58
- Rating at end of year: 82

In Summary
The archer with the highest Improvement Rating at the end of the year is awarded Most Improved Archer.
This system rewards effort, consistency, and progress across all levels of experience.
And the best part? You don’t have to calculate anything yourself – the Executive Committee takes care of it all.
All you need to do is shoot and enjoy your archery!
